2020 Internships and Apprenticeships
TomKat Ranch internships and apprenticeships are paid educational opportunities that provide broad exposure and experience for individuals interested in regenerative agriculture and food systems. We hope to share TomKat Ranch’s insights and opportunities to help grow the next generation of agricultural professionals.
About the Program
From June to August, interns are taught about and gain hands-on experience in land and soil stewardship, regenerative cattle grazing, wildlife conservation and protection, ranch management, ecological data collection, research design, selling grassfed beef, on-ranch education and gatherings, and the food system. Additionally, we encourage interns to consider taking on independent projects that support their personal or professional goals and are aligned with the ranch’s mission.
TomKat Ranch apprenticeships are 1 to 2-year positions designed to help launch the careers of aspiring regenerative food systems professionals. Apprentices are given in-depth training, opportunities to cultivate their professional networks, and independent responsibilities to test and grow their skills.
We approach ranching and land management holistically. This means that our management decisions are made to optimize for water, climate stability, economic livelihoods, biodiversity, human health, animal welfare, and healthy food.
Successful applicants will be self-motivated, curious, hard-working, communicative, and able to collaborate with a diverse team. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and be able to perform manual labor and work outdoors with livestock. Most prior interns have a college degree or are working towards one, however, this is not a requirement and no particular academic discipline or professional background is required. Interns are expected to work 50-60 hours per week, including some evenings and/or weekends.
